Shalva Mosidze - Artistic Director and Chief Conductor

Shalva Mosidze - one of the founders of the Gori Women's Chamber Choir, its unchanged Artistic Director and Conductor, Professor of Tbilisi State Conservatoire, People's artist of Georgia, Laureate of international choir music competitions (1986, 1988) and the Zakaria Paliashvili State Prize winner (1991), holder of the Order of Honour (1996).
All the success of the choir is associated with the name of Sh. Mosidze. The choir played as great a role in the development of Mosidze's performance style, as did the conductor in the professional perfection of the choir. Sh. Mosidze as a musician is noted for a refined sense of sound. He has his own sound ideal, to which he aspires whole-heartedly during the entire rehearsal process. Such detailed work results in remarkable mutual understanding between the conductor and the performers. Owing to this, every peculiar gesture of the conductor, free of any conventionality, is especially expressive for the singers. Mosidze seeks for a suitable singing position for each sound, works on individual phrases and produces on the stage the artistic whole made up of parts of perfect sounding. Mosidze's original manner of working transformed the choir into a brilliant instrument, able to overcome any technical and creative task, to perform a composition of any time and national style in accordance with its conductor's artistic will. That is why, the music of the Early Middle Ages and the present day, Classical- Romantic music and works of Georgian composers sound in the "Mosidze's style".
The masterly performance of Sh. Mosidze and his choir is appreciated greatly in the Georgian and foreign press.
Suffice it to cite one review of numerous: "The choir obeyed the conductor, who proved to be a magician of sound, as a precision instrument. The conductor managed to convey the emotive depth and high charge of music. The legato stretching from the first to the last composition brought the listener from one beauty to another" (G.Fmschmutz).
